2:05 Destin describes WW2 sonar capability, the smirk on the sonar chief's face is priceless. 7:20 no object "shapes" per se in sub sonar target classification, not necessary to the mission. However, "bearing" (aka direction, 0-360 deg, true/relative) is key and instantaneous from equipment in active or passive sonar. 8:00 Getting warmer, bearing rate is used initially to make sure you're not going to run into something, on the right-drawing-left and on the left-drawing-right objects get your attention because they are 'closing' range (6th grade geometry). The fun starts when the classification and Target Motion Analysis (TMA) kick in. Ultimately, when the tactical sonar picture is complete, the conn (control room, derived from "conning tower") has a 3D mental image of own-ship and target with physical and mental overlays of; nautical chart, threat perception, intelligence and most important - forward thinking; what are we going to DO with that info? Classify it, log it, track it, record it, shadow it, play with it, manipulate it, or maybe kill it. Great work as always Destin. Cheers!

The old "reel" type push mowers actually did use a scissors action. They cut cleanly, but didn't lift the grass up to be cut. When I was a kid back in the sixties, my dad had a gas-powered model and those big exposed blades scared the snot out of me!

Great stuff! @ 20:35 Don't slam those sh!tter doors sir. That's exactly what bad guy sonarmen are listening for. Back in the day, Hammerhead (fast boat) CO got so tired of hearing sh!tter doors slamming he had them all removed from enlisted heads for a whole patrol to get his message across. During the cold war, U.S. fast boats tracked many soviet subs on transients (uncorrelated sub sounds) alone, even using them to predict maneuvers like zig/zag, PD, depth change, etc. Cheers!

One time when I was trying to germinate Sea Rocket seeds I noticed that the seeds had a strong attraction to any solid objects including the sides of the glass. After much research I learned that this is likely an example of the Cheerios effect albeit a strong Cheerios effect stronger than other objects including Cheerios that I compared them to. I haven’t been able to look at the Sea Rocket seeds under a microscope but I think the structure of the surface of the seeds plays a role in its strong Cheerios effect. This makes sense because Sea Rockets uses water to distribute its seeds and the seeds need to find solid ground in order to mature into a plant. Anyone interested the Cheerios effect or biomimicry should check this out. This video reminded me of that experience being a surface tension related phenomenon.

I almost drowned and then died of exposure once - a learning experience and entirely my own fault - but at one point, as we were trying to extricate ourselves from the environment trying to kill us, I hit a road and had to work out whether to turn left, to friends, dryness, warmth and safety, or right, to death. And I could not tell my left from my right. It wasn't possible to decide. my brain was shutting down and although I knew who I was, and could walk, I could not think. Much the same scenario I think.

I like your video's but I smell BS. You said you went out to help this guy break your record and film it, but then when it gets to the final test and you go to break this record the area that is 700+ ft away is a tall grass area that you can conveniently just say we think he did but who knows... Seems fishy, like why would you not plan to have the area that is that distance away clear to be able to find it. It doesn't make any sense
