I'm glad you didn't test the EBL's I tested yesterday. LOL Some of those Li-ion batteries did very well, I like the micro USB charging feature. I was surprised to see the voltage drop as much as it did under load. Thanks for another fantastic testing video, and the NiMH update!

@mike johnson Charging that fast is going to hurt the longevity. But if you are doing a cost performance vs alkalines you are still way ahead. Just depends on what metric you are wanting to optimize. The most cost effective would probably be to charge slower, and just have more batteries in rotation. But there absolutely are use cases where you need a fast charge and few batteries to keep track of.

@Timmy P I bought 4 of them with a charger a few years ago. They seemed alright for a while, but then suddenly died. I remember looking this up back when this happened to me and it seemed to be a common problem. So I think that now, with the availability of EBL 3000s that you don't need to mess with NiZn.

does someone know what happened to smart tools? I can only find them for sale on ebay or on sites I've never heard of before. Edit: nvm, seems there was issues with the batteries and they're unavailable. Hopefully they're fixing the issues.

I don't understand the concept of having plugs on the battery. Couldn't be a more robust, longer lasting battery if all the space were used? Maybe this is to keep from misuse of charging devices, e.g. trying to "fast-charge" at 15w, using a universal NiMH charger on lithium... I could imagine lawsuits happening born from ignorance or stupidity.

In future battery videos, for both rechargeable and non-rechargeable, it'd be great to see a few other tests. 1) How well they perform after and/or during being exposed to heat or cold. 2) How well non-rechargeable batteries perform and how many cycles they last using specialty battery chargers designed for non-rechargeables. (Yes, those work and are safe if you follow the guidelines.) 3) How many cycles the standard rechargeable batteries last and how well they perform up till the end. And, finally, 4) How many joules can the batteries survive? For example, if there's a surge while charging or short circuit from device usage.

The really high capacity batteries I saw are 18650 , I saw some at 79 000 mah , they are just a bit bigger than AA , that's why I don't understand why we still have that crap capacity AA batteries....

The HIGH in the NiMH test is for the battery`s internal resistance not the voltage, You could have done the li-ion discharge test on the Maha C-9000 using DISCHARGE only, People test Alkaline on this charge all the time, And it should have been fine with the Li-ion battery`s

I’ve tested the maxlithium and blackcube and found that they don’t hold charge for long. I have some 10mA LED candles and they only last for 60h or an equivalent of 600mAh, in the course of around 8 days (around 8h a day). High self discharge, making them useless for most applications.

I have been using the ENELOOP PRO 2500 miliamps 1.2 volts bought 4 cause i read they where made by Sanyo b4 Panasonic took over made in JAPAN then bought 8 more the last 4 I forgotten where I put them found them n they still had lots of charge in them after 5 years storage it doesn't even crosses my mind these batteries will ever let me down the first 4 I bought at least 6 years ago n they are still perfect wished u tried them instead of the lower priced ENELOOP would a been interesting

Funny, even though Eneloops were great years ago i returned to using non-rechargeables. The convenience combined with general quality increase plus price, *you can get a 100 aas for like 15$ now* was just better.

What is the scale you are using to weigh the batteries? Perhaps you could do a test of this type of scale (50 x 0.001g) for accuracy, especially in the low mg range.

Do they make AAA 1.5V lithiums, yet? If they do, could you test those? I am not sure if you can extrapolate AA test results to AAA with the same brand. They could have slightly different chemistry. The reason for my interest in AAA's is that I have a 3-AAA headlamp that eats batteries, but is also pretty bright. I have not tried NIMH's because I figured the difference in voltage would run them down sooner. Thanks for the work you do!

The "HIGH" On the PowerEx charger at 12:40 means high internal resistance, not high voltage. I have the identical PowerEx charger.

Another awesome test. I am curious to know how these Litthium batteries would perform at low temp in a future test. It would be interesting to compare vs NiMh and non-rechargeable batteries. at 0°C and -10°C. at -15°C lithium batteries would stop working I guess. I have in mind headlisght use in winter time for instance. Typically a real outdoors use case when you may need mAh and volts on the field at low temp.

Great video! Just a thought, it might not be the best comparison between NiMH and L-ion if you discharge them at different rates with different instruments. But if you were just re-testing the NiMH batteries after hard use, then no big deal. Thanks for making these!

Here comes a request. So in the fishing kayak and canoe department, there are quite a few anglers out there that are always looking for the best of the bestus LiFePO4 batteries. Some tout Nocqua as victor secondary to it's smaller and lighter weight. Some will rave about FPV LiFePO4 and it's completely sealed housing as best. I bought a Amped Outdoors LiFePO4 because of the conclusive evidence demonstrated by super awesome Ice Hole Power (YT channel) testing. Jeremy, however, didn't test the the FPV. I am just wondering if the name brands are hyped up to be significantly better than the generic no-name brand. Now the real question is longevity. Do the budget brands last as long, and if they don't, does the cost difference of the name brand justify this price increase?

I've needed this so much. I got some old test gear that chews up 6 AA batteries. The wor ssd t thing is if you fill that with NiMH AA they are cumulatively 1.8v under the 9v alkaline it expects so it shuts itself off almost right away because the batteries are low!

NiMh is good for low draw, long use. NiCad is good for repeated high draw for short sessions. Liion is basically better nicad but doesn’t survive just sitting around between uses for long periods of time like NiMh (like to remotes), also not good for long use low draw but need a specific voltage (liion drops as it discharges)

I purchasing a pair of off brand 12v battery for an old Dewalt drill i got a 4 pack of TENAVOLTS AAA Lithium as a gift tried them out in my keyboard and mouse only work for 2 weeks tried 3 times and got the same 2 weeks result i use Berkley & Jensen AAA which lasts about 2 months pack of 48 Berkley & Jensen AA $21.95 and pack of 48 Berkley & Jensen AAA $18.95 i buy five pack of each to keep for hurricane season

Love the videos, you've always got a great process for testing. id like to see a best hole saw test for hard abrasive materials like plaster and concrete board. I have yet to find a good durable option for that job.
